 Antique Quarter Francis Street

Francis Street is an old street in Dublin, considered to be the first and foremost Antique Quarter of the city. In 1235, a Franciscan abbey founded a church dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi that lent its name to the neighbouring street. Antique shops and art galleries line both sides of the street and are homes of such fine antiques as oil paintings, marble statues and sculptures, tapestries, china figures, furniture, lamps and weaponry, most of which date back as far as the 16th-18th centuries. Antique Quarter Francis Street was officially recognized in October 2003, thanks to the grand effort put in by local antique traders who published a Francis Street guide, listing all the local antique shops and galleries.
