Chimneys - Ламповые стекла
For the student or collector of Victorian lamps tables of wick and chimney sizes may be of great value. This information is not readily available elsewhere, particularly as the old catalogues are rare and almost impossible to acquire or even borrow.
The symbol ", referred to as 'line', should be explained. For comparison a 20" lamp was rated as 50 candlepower and 30" as 100 candlepower, these lamps being of central draught design and taking circular wicks. The system of line measurement is of German origin and was widely adopted by manufacturers in other countries. There is no exact conversion of line to chimney dimensions or wick sizes.
The following table lists the principal chimneys and globes and gives their dimensions and fittings. The list is as complete as possible and alternative names are given where they are known. In some cases chimneys are interchangeable and a conversion table is given showing the common fittings, always provided that the shape of the chimney will suit the draught design of the burner.
